About me
Hello! My name is Lauren, and I'm the writer in this blog. I began playing piano when I was five years old. At first, I played for my own entertainment and, once in a while, to enter a contest just to judge my own playing. In high school, I decided I wanted to use my musical ability to benefit my community. I started volunteering to play piano at a local senior living facility my sophomore year in high school, having regular, personal concerts at both assisted living and memory care, and continue to do so today. This volunteering sparked my interest in the relations between music and memory. I embarked on a journey of searching to better understand Alzheimer's disease and other causes of dementia. Then I began to research how music, including playing, singing, and listening, impacts patients suffering from memory loss.
As I delved deeper into the research, I came to realize that I wanted to expand further from solely music: I was curious about the aging world in general. From this realization, I started thinking about my own family. My family's history is filled with immigration from country to country, and I have recently learned that a great aunt has been diagnosed with cancer. I wondered if immigration played a role in health, and specifically how it has affected the seniors' health in the family. Not only this, but how is technology involved in all of this? I knew I had so much to research and discover, and I couldn't wait to get to it. However, I needed a way to organize it all, and I decided on a blog because I can not only organize my findings and thoughts, but also share them with others with the same interests. With this blog, I hope that others can use the knowledge gathered to help their own loved ones that are aging or suffering from memory loss. I hope you enjoy my blog, and if there are any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me using the contact tab!
